Melanie Norman
Bilingual Therapist - BSW, MSW, RSW
Hello and welcome! My name is Melanie Norman, and I am a Bilingual Registered Social Worker. I received my Bachelor of Social Work in French from Laurentian University in 2018 and obtained my Master of Social Work with the University of Waterloo in 2023. I have been working in the mental health field for a little over 9 years and find so much joy in being able to support individuals throughout their healing journeys. I first began my career as a Child and Youth Worker where I supported families within a home environment and eventually found a passion for providing therapy to children and youth within a school setting. In addition, I also have experience in child protection, crisis intervention, as well as sexual assault and gender-based violence.
I am thrilled to be able to provide you with bilingual services, both in English and in French. I am specialized in providing individual therapy to children and youth with my areas of focus being Mental Health such as emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma (both historical and current), bullying, self-esteem, relationship issues as well as grief and loss. I understand that children and youth are a vulnerable population and therefore it is my goal to build a trusting, non-judgemental and healthy relationship with you in order for you to feel safe and heard. My hopes are to make therapy fun by incorporating activities and laughter, as I know it can sometimes feel intimidating and exhausting.
My practice includes many specific therapy modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, mindfulness, as well as Art and Play-Based Therapy. I work from a trauma-informed and evidence-based practice and will always ensure to find what intervention method works best for you and your family.
I look forward to welcoming you and would be happy to further discuss how therapy might be the right fit for you.
